While contacting COPA Flights chapters to receive an updated status report, many were surprised by our request to provide an annual report. Although this stipulation was in the COPA Guide to COPA Flights ever since the First edition of the Guide, it may not have been highlighted sufficiently, furthermore COPA Policy #6, did not clearly define this requirement.
The issue of not updating your Flight`s records often prevented COPA National in communicating with your COPA Flight and could cause much confusion on who is in charge, in the event of a liability insurance claim.
A proposed amendment to COPA Policy #6 was submitted to the COPA Bylaws and Policies Committee for review and was approved by the COPA Board of Directors in June at Summerside, PEI, Board meeting.
This amendment will ensure all COPA Flights must be updated yearly and insurance coverage is guaranteed. All COPA Flights will be required to submit an update by December 31st. During the subsequent year, any request received from a COPA Flight will be processed if the Flight has produced a yearly report. If we did not receive any update from that Flight, COPA National will return a Status form to be completed after the Flight’s elections of the new executive has been concluded, and then the form shall be returned before proceeding in the Flights’ request.
