Laughter and planning upcoming events

By George Daniels

On Wednesday, October 11, we joined forces with COPA Flight 143, Edenvale at the Edenvale Airport Lounge for a special evening with Aviation’s Man of Laughter, Garth Wallace.

More than four dozen pilots enjoyed a stimulating evening listening to Garth Wallace regale all with the antics of some people in aviation. Everyone was howling with laughter at one "vignette" where Garth took everyone through an “Instructors Challenge” with a new student pilot being taught the intricacy of the first flight.

The December 2006 issue of Collingwood Life & Pictorial gave our COPA Flight

85 a half page spread with six photographs of our June 6, 2006 Young Eagles Day and tour of Crossflow Aero Corp facilities at the Collingwood Regional Airport.

The Army Cadets we flew, along with pilots Doyle, Cunningham, Gallinger, McCannell, Ripley, Daniels and Jorge Alonso, President of Crossflow, were featured.

This publication has a readership of more than 4,000 in the community so we got lots of positive exposure.

On the "flight plan” for 2007 is a spring Young Eagles event with Scouts and Cadets on Saturday May 12, at the Collingwood Regional Airport. In negotiation is a Transport Canada Safety Seminar on the same day. The plan is to fly Young Eagles in the morning, and attend Safety Seminar in the afternoon.

We are also working with Dr. David Ripley, one of our Young Eagle volunteer pilots and president of the Collingwood Chamber of Commerce, for another 2007 event. More news when that is finalized.
