Winter party, auction promotes aviation

By Jim and MJ Chappell

The annual Winter Party and Silent Auction, held on  Saturday, Jan. 12, marked another successful social event for North Bay COPA Flight 23.

The success of this event would not have happened without the hard work and dedication of special members of our group, namely Carol Cooke for her relentless efforts and phone calls to round up attendees.

Seventy nine members turned out and by all accounts enjoyed the delicious Italian buffet and of course yummy desserts!

The Silent Auction is a part of this annual event, which raises funds for the Young Eagles program. Members of our flight donate bid items which range in variety from homemade butters tarts to original artwork.

Special thanks to all who donated to this great cause and to Cameron Sanders and Cheryl Ward for organizing this event. We are pleased to say we raised $970.00 which will be put towards sponsoring a candidate/s for the Oshkosh Aviation camp in July, 2008.

After dinner, Kevin Psutka said a few words and expressed his thanks for the continued interest and enthusiasm of our flight group in promoting aviation in our community.

All in all a great night was had by all with lots of socializing and hangar talk. Plans are already underway for next years Winter Party to be held on January 10, 2009.
