A mid-winter party breaks attendance record

The midwinter party continues to be one of the highlights of the year with a new record of 90 attending at the Davedi Club.

Several out of town COPA members joined the festivities (Kevin Psutka and Patrick Gilligan – COPA National; Lloyd Richards – Timmins; Phil & Martha Englishman – Walkerton; Marc Panet Raymond Val-d-Or; as well as Flight 23 members from South River, Mattawa, and Huntsville.

The Davedi Club staff outdid themselves with a superb Italian buffet. Our members continue to be extremely supportive in donating articles for the silent auction. This year more than $1,400 was raised to help secure the continued health of aviation activities. The Directors presented COPA National with a cheque for $500 for the Special Action Fund. The remainder will be used for the Young Eagle program.

After dinner, President Psutka gave an update on issues facing general aviation and Northern Ontario Director Marc Charron outlined preliminary plans for a group flight to COPA Convention in Calgary in July 09, and also announced the first meeting had been held for the 2nd Interprovincial Air Tour to take place June 4 – 7.
