COPA Flight 5 held their monthly meeting on March 12, 2008. There where 17 members in attendance and it was a very productive meeting. We finalized our plans for our upcoming Young Eagles Flight on May 10. It will be held at the Delta

Heritage Airpark. We have eight pilots signed on and a like number of Marshalers.

Donn Hubble is the chief pilot and Lowell Brecken will once again conduct the Ground

School for each of the flights. Bruce Prior is the chief Marshaller.

We had some more members pay their 2008 dues and we are getting close to having all members paid up. We also decided, that instead of giving the Air Cadet League of

Canada a cheque for $50, we would instead give our two local Air Cadet Squadrons $50 each. We feel the Squadrons would be better served, by donating to them directly.

Terry Wilshire, COPA representative for British Columbia/Yukon, was at our meeting to make a special presentation to our ex Flight Captain Al Fielder. He presented Al with a certificate, giving him a one-year free membership to COPA National.

Al has worked tirelessly since reviving COPA Flight 5 back in 2002. He is an inspiration to us all and is certainly deserving of the honour. COPA Flight 5 also thanked Al by giving him and his wife Barb, $100 to enjoy any way they wish.

Thank you, Al for all your hard work.

Terry Wilshire also brought us up to date on National happenings. He was also looking for support from COPA Flight 5 for possible upcoming issues concerning our freedom to fly in the Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley of British Columbia. I assured Terry that we would support him fully in his efforts. That’s all for this month.
