Great day for kids, pilots and ATC

By Marc Dumay

The weather was CAVOK for our first COPA For Kids day.

Pilot briefing was at 09:30 with Flights staring at 10:00. The Windsor Flying Club provided the venue, EAA Chapter 185 the hot dogs and refreshments.

Co-ordination with the great staff in the Control Tower of CYQG, set the flying and safety procedures in motion for the day.

Our pre flight ground activities, registration, and Top Dogs at the barbecue, was all handled by COPA members, Co- Pilot Dave Smith and Navigator Dave Bondy.

An assortment of aircraft, a couple of Cessna 172, RV7, RV9A and a 1941 Boeing Stearman from the Canadian Historical Society- CH2A “Yellow Birds” piloted by Denis Schryer, flew kids, young ladies and men ranging from 7-17  into the blue skies, with a 30 minute, flight from CYQG” Windsor” to Essex then McGregor back to CYQG.

Upon landing a photo opportunity was provided for the parents, pilots signed certificates, food and refreshments were served.

All in all, a great day for the pilots, air traffic controllers and for those who participated with smiles from ground to sky.

The events of the day are proudly preserved for ever by the great photographs taken by George Mock, and made possible by all our volunteers, supporters and fellow Pilots.
