An Aeronautical Study has been launched concerning the traffic problems associated with the Boundary Bay Airport (near Vancouver) B.C. There are several flying schools based at Boundary Bay and nearby. The close proximity to Vancouver and rising terrain to the north, the bay to the south and a low floor on the Vancouver Terminal Area funnels a high volume of VFR traffic through a small piece of sky east of the airport control zone.
So far the Aeronautical Study has confirmed that in the area of the two VFR reporting points, Blackie Spit and the Trestle, and also in the adjacent training alert area CYA 125(T) there are periods of very high air traffic density.
With input from COPA and many aviation interests in the area, the
Aeronautical Study team is attempting to find a solution without resorting to
restrictions. Geoff Graham, TC Air Navigation Services & Airspace, Pacific
Region, has drafted the following preliminary suggestions for pilots flying in
the area. These will appear as an Aeronautical Information Circular mailed to
aircrew with amendments to the Aeronautical Information Publication.
