Commercial tax on Ontario hangars will be rolled back

Yvonne Hamlin, the Toronto lawyer working for COPA on the Ontario property tax issue, reports that the commercial level taxation on private hangars will be dropped for 2001. Ontario private hangar owners have already received their property assessments for the 2001 tax year. These reflect the higher commercial levels that these owners have been paying for the last two years. The Ontario government’s decision to roll these back came too late to be reflected in the assessment notice. (See, “COPA wins relief for private hangar owners in Ontario,” COPA front page article, Canadian Flight, November 2000) Hamlin and COPA are working with the Ontario government to draft the legislative amendments and regulation changes to make the roll back happen.
