Nav Canada is forming Joint Advisory Teams for each of the new Flight Information Centre service areas. The JATs will serve as a focus for customer and stakeholder input regarding the implementation and monitoring of system changes and service transitions related to the FIC Project. The establishment of FICs at the six southern Canada sites announced in April 2000 has begun, with facility renovations and the procurement of necessary equipment underway. (See the Nav Canada column, “Flightpath” elsewhere in this issue.)
JAT members will also have a role in providing advice regarding the upcoming ANS Area System Reviews. The purpose of these reviews is to develop a long-term plan to implement a service delivery framework that best meets customers’ operational needs and that positions Nav Canada to better accommodate future traffic growth. These reviews focus on airport traffic services; remote communication and advisory services; aviation weather observation and reporting; emergency navigation assistance; navaids; airport kiosk locations; the identification of critical Remote Communication Outlets and other enroute communications issues.
Some COPA members have volunteered already to sit on a JAT. Others are needed. If you can spare time during regular working hours, have an interest in shaping the FICs and live near: Halifax, Quebec City, Edmonton, Kamloops, London or Winnipeg, then contact Kevin Psutka about the need for team members in your area.
