Halifax FSS moves into new location

Nav Canada has announced that the Halifax Flight Service Station (FSS) will begin operations from the site of the new Flight Information Centre (FIC) facility on Sept. 17, 2001 at 2015 EDT. The relocation to the new facility at Halifax is the start of the provision of flight information services being implemented by the establishment of Flight Information Centres, although there remains several features to be developed and tested before the new facility should be considered as an FIC. Effective immediately, two new toll free numbers will be available for contacting Halifax: Tel.: 866-WXBRIEF (866-992-7422) will route calls originating from within the existing Halifax FSS service area to Halifax. This number will initially be available for calls from within the Maritime Provinces. It will be expanded to Newfoundland and Labrador in 2002 as FIC transitions begin.
As FICs become operational throughout Canada, calls to this number from anywhere in Canada will be routed to the appropriate FIC. Tel.: 866-541-4106 will go direct to the Halifax FSS. This number is primarily for satellite/cell phone users and for calling Halifax FIC from outside the service area, including the United States.
Callers to the old phone number, 800-INFOFSS (800-463-6377), will hear a message advising of the change in number. Callers may stay on the line and follow the prompts to be re-routed for service. Pilot briefings will be available at the new location, on the second floor of the Nav Canada Air Operations Facility collocated with the airport control tower. The fax number for the Halifax FSS will change to 902-873-6115. If you experience problems or have questions, contact Nav Canada’s customer service line, Tel.: 800-876-4693.
