The Altitude Is Everything project to celebrate
the 100th year of powered flight is safely launched and about to hit cruising
altitude, flying the breadth of this country on the wings of Canadian pride.
Our neighbours to the south, who formed a million-dollar commission to celebrate
the centennial of flight, are pleased Canada is coming to the global party.
“We think it particularly appropriate,” wrote U.S. General J.R. Dailey on
September 30, “because of the many Canadian aviation contributions, from the
first flight of the Silver Dart in 1909 in Nova Scotia, to the remote arm aboard
the Space Shuttle.”
Other comments made from the many Altitude Is Everything community partners
about the importance of world-wide celebration of the Centennial of Flight
emphasizes the legacy of Canada’s own aviation pioneers and the innovation of
our modern aerospace industry.
The words of Astronaut and Scientist Roberta Bondar, Commander of Military Merit
General Paul Manson, Order of Canada recipient Maxwell Ward, Canadian Snowbirds
Major Stu McIntosh, and a host of aerospace industry leaders may be viewed now
on the Web site: www.altitudeis.com.
Through regular newsletters, the Web site, the launch of a solo flight that will
attempt to break multiple world records for speed, and a host of other
celebratory activities, Altitude Is Everything offers opportunities to share
across the country the many stories of both historic and modern aeronautical
achievement in Canada.
Altitude Is Everything invites everyone in Canada to take a new interest in the
world of aviation. COPA has joined as a partner of Altitude Is Everything and
will be publishing centennial activities throughout 2003.
