Applicants sought for Canadian 99s award

The 99s Canadian Award in Aviation is to promote aviation throughout Canada.
This award is given annually to educational organizations, charitable institutions or private individuals whose activities promote, improve or preserve aviation and aeronautics in Canada.
In the past, awards have gone to: The Western Canadian Aviation Museum; Dr. Alan Frosst; The Experimental Aircraft Association of Canada, Technical Committee; The Canadian Aviation Historical Society; Ray Crone, aviation historian; The Canadian Museum of Flight and Transportation; Fred Hotson, author and historian; The Vintage Aircraft Restorers of Moose Jaw, Sask.; The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Brandon, Man.; Harbour Grace Historical Society, Newfoundland; The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, Hamilton, Ont.; Bruce Gowans, author and historian from Calgary; The Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum located in Nova Scotia; The Aero Space Museum of Calgary; Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa; “Let’s Talk Science” sites in London, Vancouver and Edmonton; Toronto Aerospace Museum, Shirley Smith Matheson, Calgary; The Nanton Lancaster Society, Nanton, Alta.; Hope Air, Toronto and in 2001 The Moose Jaw branch of the Saskatchewan Western Development Museum for the Snowbird’s Gallery.
Since its inception, the award has come to be recognized as a special part of the aviation community, not just as a financial gift, but an official recognition by a prestigious national organization of women pilots. The award is given in the name of all Canadian 99s and has been awarded to recipients from the east coast of Canada to the west coast.
The members of the Board of Trustees are pleased to announce that it is now receiving applications for the 2002 award. The amount of the award will be approximately $2,000.
Interested applicants should provide background information, future plans and reasons for requesting financial assistance. All applications must be in writing and postmarked no later than Aug. 31, 2002.

The 99’s Canadian Award in Aviation has been in existence since 1974 and is recognized by Revenue Canada as a Canadian registered charity.
