Effective January 1st, Hope Air will be
experiencing a significant reduction in Commercial seats made available for use
by Hope Air patients.
Changes in the airline industry mean that we will lose about 1,000 commercial
seats - many of them as a result of a drop in available Aeroplan points.
Last year, over 2,000 of Hope Air’s nearly 5,000 flights were paid for using a
pool of donated Aeroplan points. The original donation for this pool was
actually Canadian Plus points that were transferred over when the airlines
merged.
Hope Air has been working with Aeroplan since the merger trying to set up a new
donation mechanism so that they can replenish these points, but it’s taking
time.
As a result, Hope Air is losing some access to these points. This, combined with
changes in the airline industry is putting a crunch on.
Here’s how you can help - and it doesn’t cost a dime. Aeroplan has put a survey
on-line to ask people were they would donate Aeroplan points if they were
inclined to donate them. It’s just a survey, so there is no commitment required.
Due to some administrative oversight, Hope Air was not specifically included on
the survey.
If you would like to help out with this situation and provide our commercial
sponsor, Air Canada, with some indication on where you would like to see them
invest their resources, please complete the survey and specifically name Hope
Air in the comment section of the form. (You don’t have to be an Aeroplan
collector to complete the survey, but if you are, they would like to know your
Aeroplan number).
You may also consider expressing interest in the children and community support
categories, making specific mention of Hope Air in the comments section. This
survey does not call for any actual commitment of money or points.
Hope Air’s request is simply that you help convince our national airline to
consider using their dominant position to make a relevant and meaningful
contribution to the communities they serve.
