Ontario intends to mandate ethanol in auto fuel

Premier Dalton McGuinty announced on Oct. 5, his government intends to make the inclusion of 5% ethanol in auto fuel mandatory by 2007 in Ontario.

The plan also includes increasing that to 10% ethanol by 2010.

Many COPA members operate their aircraft on auto fuel and since TC prohibits the use of fuel containing ethanol in aircraft, the Ontario government decision will obviously cause problems for pilots in this province.

COPA has written to Premier McGuinty to ask for consultation with us on this issue before a decision is made and to give serious consideration to allowing the production of non-ethanol containing fuel for those users that cannot run on fuel with ethanol in it.
