Recently members have been noticing hotels and rental car companies having been asking travellers for identification before giving preferred rates. This is especially true for anyone travelling on government rates – suddenly now you need government ID to get the rates.
Why the sudden push on asking for ID everywhere? This actually comes from a new
federal government policy that cracks down on hotel and rental car companies
that don’t ask for ID when giving out federal government rates.
Basically if the providers don’t ask for ID to prove that the person using the
government rates is entitled to them then the government won’t give them the
government business! This means that everywhere across Canada hotel and rental
car companies are checking ID before confirming the rates.
Fortunately all COPA members are entitled to special discounts on rental cars
and hotels across Canada and at many international locations by showing your
COPA membership Aircrew card.
COPA offers discounts with six rental car companies – Hertz, Budget, Thrifty,
Avis, Enterprise and National. Complete details on these discount programs can
