TC improves AULA list

Since the Advanced Ultralight Aeroplane category was developed in 1991 Transport Canada (TC) has kept the list of aircraft that could be registered as AULAs. Until recently that list was entitled “Transport Canada Approved List of AULAs” and it contained predominantly just the names of manufacturers and the models of AULAs.

The list has recently gone through some transformations and it now has much more useful information for pilots looking to buy an AULA.

The new list is now called “Listing of Models Eligible to be registered as Advanced Ultra-Light Aeroplanes (AULA)”, thus indicating that TC does not approve AULAs, but merely lists those companies who have filed Declarations of Compliance.

The newly improved list also includes more information on each AULA type. The list provides information on the type of undercarriage (land or floats), the engine types permitted, along with the empty and gross weights.

This information will allow prospective purchasers to see that the new or used AULA they are looking at conforms to the weights and engine types listed. This will hopefully avoid registration and operational problems.

The Listing of Models Eligible to be Registered as Advanced Ultra-Light Aeroplanes (AULA) can be found in the ultralight section of the TC website.
