It’s August – Do You Know Where Your Airport Is?As was recently announced in the July issue of COPA Flight we have drastically changed COPA’s Places to Fly, for the better! It is now user editable. This means that anyone can enter or edit information on any Canadian airport and post airport photos. As of July 4th, 2005 the collection of airports has grown from the initial 133 in the old Places to Fly to 207 airports, a 56% increase in just a month. Is your local airport up there yet? If so, is the information up-to-date? Do you have airport pictures you want to share by posting them on the page for your airport? The new Places to Fly is easy to use and very user friendly – if you can type (no matter how slowly) you can enter a new airport or edit an existing airport entry. Photos are easy to upload, too. You can even add information on fly-ins and other time-sensitive information and then go back and remove it once the event is done! We are hoping that COPA members, airport managers and other pilots will help us collect information on every place to fly in Canada and then help us keep it up to date. That becomes an easy task if each COPA flight adopts their local airport page and works to keep it up to date. We are hoping to have every certified airport, registered aerodrome, non-registered aerodrome, closed airports (just so people know where they are), military airports, gliderport, ultralight strips, balloon launch fields, - everywhere where people-carrying airplanes can land. Been on a cross country lately? Take those fuel receipts when you get home and enter the fuel prices for the airports where you bought fuel! Together this collaborative project will gather everything everyone needs to know about airports in Canada. Nervous about entering information? There is a complete (and simple) user’s guide written in Q&A format to help you out - it contains everything you need to know. Have a look at http://copanational.org/non-members/placestofly/intro.htm and see if your local airport is there. If not – go ahead and enter it.
