Spring-up to a Rust Remover near you

Spring will soon be here and that means most pilot’s thoughts turn to the subject of Rust Removers!
CAR 401.05 (2) (a) requires that all pilots must have successfully completed a recurrent training program within the 24 months preceding any flight.
Of course one of the easiest ways to meet that requirement and stay legal is to attend a regional COPA Rust Remover fly-in and complete your recurrency training there.
This year COPA is offering six spring Rust Removers, from B.C. to the Maritimes.
Many of the traditional locations from past years will be offering Rust Removers again this year.
These include Vernon, Red Deer, Calgary, Regina, Hanover and Summerside.
There will be no Rust Remover in 2006 in the B.C. lower mainland.
COPA Flight 37 Sherbrooke may be holding a French language Rust Remover later in the year – details to follow.

Here are all the details about the six coast-to-coast COPA Rust Removers, from west to east:

VERNON, BC
Vernon Flying Club/COPA Flight 65 2006 Rust Remover
Dates: Friday April 7, evening dinner and social; Saturday April 8, Rust Remover
Friday Potluck Dinner starts at 5:30 - at 7:30 we will be entertained with “Aerial Adventure Travel” stories and films. Out-of -towners are especially welcome!
Saturday Rust Remover
9:00 - Clubhouse opens for coffee and Timbits
9:30 - Program starts
10:45 - 20 minute break
12:30 - Break for lunch (Soup and Subway sandwiches - $6.00)
1:45 - Recommence program
3:30 - Wind-up (those propellers for departure ...not winds at 25 knots).
Planned agenda:
- Key Elements for Today’s Pilots; Pete Wise, highly experienced Outdoor Survival Expert, on emergency and survival techniques.
- Vernon’s own Chuck Ross, experienced bush pilot and commercial instructor, speaking on engine management.
- Dr. Doug Bell, presenting aviation-specific Health Factors and Nav Canada ATC personnel presenting “Working With ATC.” Due to the great turnouts be certain to pre-register by e-mailing Marion Ross at rv4@telus.net or phoning Marion and Chuck at 250-542-1740. The Vernon Flying Club has obtained special rates at the Prestige Inn Hotel and the Tiki Village Motel for out-of-towners. Just inform the facility that you are attending the COPA Flight 65 Rust Remover, and they will provide a reasonable room rate.

CALGARY, AB
COPA Flight 114/Calgary Ultralight Flying Club - Ultralight/Homebuilders Rust Remover

Topics: This COPA Rust Remover will include topics aimed at owners and pilots of amateur-built and ultralight aircraft. Everyone is welcome.

RED DEER, AB
April 30, Red Deer, AB: Red Deer COPA Flight 92/Red Deer Flying Club (also partnering with Aviation Alberta) COPA Rust Remover at the SkyWings Aviation, Red Deer Regional Airport. Breakfast is served from 0800 to 1000. Seminars start at 1000 and go to 1400 with a lunch break at 11:30 when Kevin Psutka, President/CEO of COPA will be giving an update on the national scene. The usual suspects will be there to make the educational experience complete to get the recurrency stickers for pilot logbooks. Program: Transport Canada - Regs, flight planning, cross border procedures and possibly a survival presentation, COPA aviation update, Nav Canada Charlottetown FSS refresher on local concerns and procedures.
