Places to Fly hits 500COPA’s user-editable airports directory Places to Fly reached a milestone on March 19, 2006 with the addition of its 500th airport entry. With help from many COPA members adding airports and keeping entries up to date Places to Fly is rapidly catching up to the Canada Flight Supplement for sheer number of entries. Of course, Places to fly provides quite a bit of information the venerable CFS doesn’t have – such as landing fees, fuel prices, hotel information and tourist attractions. Here is a list of some of the most recent airports added to Places to Fly: Weyman Airpark NB, Stobart Creek BC, Sandspit BC, Grande Prairie AB, Lloydminster AB, Terrace BC, Fredericton NB, Red Lake ON, Williams Lake BC, Knee Lake MB, Homewood MB, Miminiska ON, Leamington ON, Pickle Lake ON, Rankin Inlet NU, Gainsborough SK, Frontier SK, Lewvan (Farr Strip) SK, Likely BC, Martensville / Richter Airfield, SK and Pokemouche, NB. Some improvements have also been made to Places to Fly to make it work better for contributors. There is now a space to indicate the date when fuel prices were last updated. This should help remind pilots to enter that bit of information, as a fuel price without a date isn’t of much value by itself. Another improvement is a new page featuring Recently Changed Pages . On this page users can see a list of all the airport entries that have been changed in the last month in order by the date of the change. It indicates new airports added and existing entries whenever they are updated or reverted to previous pages. This will allow pilots watching a series of airport pages for updates by other people or vandalism to quickly check to see when a page has been changed – no more guessing when a new airport is added either! Everyone can help make Places to Fly a success – add a new airport or update an existing entry. It only takes a few minutes and the entry form is user friendly. No special skills are required and you don’t have to learn any new computer language to make changes or update an entry. If you can type (even slowly) you can help COPA create the most useful and complete airport directory in Canada! You can find Places to Fly on the COPA website at www.copanational.org/PlacesToFly . |
